Doctoral Scholarships
Scholarships for students pursuing an Au.D. or conducting research in an Au.D. or Ph.D. audiology program
The Illinois Academy of Audiology is pleased to offer scholarships for outstanding students in an Illinois Au.D. program. In addition, the ILAA offers research awards for students conducting research in an Illinois Au.D. or Ph.D. audiology program. These scholarships are available based on the generosity of supporters of ILAA fundraising efforts. When the scholarships become available, announcements are sent to the Au.D. and Ph.D. audiology programs in Illinois, and to ILAA Student members. Selection is based on:
- the potential for the student to make a significant contribution to the field of audiology,
- demonstrated academic accomplishment and intellectual ability,
- the applicant's character, school and community activities, personal motivation, and leadership potential, and
- in the case of the research scholarship, the potential benefit of the student's proposed dissertation or special research project.
The ILAA Honors Committee selects the recipients of the awards. Recipients will join the ranks of previous outstanding scholars: Jessica Fulton and Beth Tanner (2003-2004); Erin Maierle, Hilary Snapp, Blair Tenllado and Sarah Melamed (2004-2005); Lia Ferro, Megan Mulvey, Magdalene Sikora and Darrin Worthington (2005-2006); Jillian Baehr, Blythe Holmes, and Jaimie Gilbert (2006-2007); Renee Banakis, Rachel McMullen, and Stephanie Pesa (2007-2008); Jacqueline Busen, McLorn Carpenter, and Jessica Levine (2008-2009), and Kristine Henslin, Rachel Specht, and Jay Vachhani (2009-2010 winners)
Many thanks to those who developed policies and prepared materials for the Doctoral Scholarships: Marci Evans, Pam Fiebig, Gail Gudmundsen, Dana Helmink, James Lankford, Magdalene Sikora, Marla Trombetta, and Steve Wolinsky, and to the Honors Committee for participating in the difficult process of selecting the recipients from all the worthy candidates. ILAA membership can be proud of this program that supports the future of the profession.
