Scholarships for students pursuing an Au.D. or conducting research in an Au.D. or Ph.D. audiology program

Each year the ILAA offers two $1000 scholarships for outstanding students in an Illinois Au.D. program. In addition, the ILAA offers one $1000 research award for a student conducting research in an Illinois Au.D. or Ph.D. audiology program.

Thanks to the generosity and support of the many annual auction donors and purchasers, sufficient funds are currently available to support these ILAA scholarships; however, we continue to welcome personal donations to the scholarship fund so that ILAA can continue to offer awards to future students.

Scholarship application forms are sent to the Directors of the Au.D. and Ph.D. audiology programs in Illinois for distribution to interested students who are in or beginning at least their second year of study. Selection is based on

  1. the potential for the student to make a significant contribution to the field of audiology,
  2. demonstrated academic accomplishment and intellectual ability,
  3. the applicant's character, school and community activities, personal motivation, and leadership potential, and
  4. in the case of the research scholarship, the potential benefit of the student's proposed dissertation or special research project.
The Honors Committee will select the recipients of the awards. Recipients will join the ranks of previous outstanding scholars, Jessica Fulton and Beth Tanner (2003 winners), Erin Maierle, Hilary Snapp, Blair Tenllado and Sarah Melamed (2004 winners), Lia Ferro, Megan Mulvey, Magdalene Sikora and Darrin Worthington (2005 winners), Jillian Baehr, Blythe Holmes, and Jaimie Gilbert (2006 winners), Renee Banakis, Rachel McMullen, and Stephanie Pesa (2007 winners).

The 2008 winners are Jacqueline Busen, McLorn Carpenter, and Jessica Levine.

Scholarship recipients will be asked to become members of the ILAA, serve on at least one ILAA committee, and attend at least two ILAA Board meetings during the year the award is granted. In the case of the research scholarship recipient, he/she must be willing if requested to present the research at the ILAA annual convention and/or in ILAA communications as appropriate. Recipients also must be willing to serve as a student board member if so appointed.
