The Illinois Academy of Audiology (ILAA) is proud to welcome and support student members from the five wonderful audiology doctoral programs in the state. Student support takes the form of scholarships, research support, volunteer and leadership opportunities, and guidance in the transition from student to professional life. Student members join us on legislative outreach trips and help to judge state science fair entries. Join ILAA as an audiology student member today!

What We Fight For
Here, at ILAA, we encourage our students to promote Audiology. Across the five AuD universities, student members gain visibility within their communities through various projects.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS HEALTHY HEARING
The Special Olympics mission statement is "to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This gives them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community."
Undergraduate and graduate students as well as licensed audiologists are needed each year to provide free hearing screenings to athletes, coaches and their families. Contact us to see how you can help.
NIU HEART OF HEARING PROGRAM
Professor King Chung takes students to developing countries as part of the Heart of Hearing Program. Each summer, students and faculty with the Northern Illinois University (NIU) Heart of Hearing Humanitarian Research and Service Program go to a different country or region to provide free hearing services to underserved populations. Students have the opportunity to experience other cultures while providing hearing services to underrepresented populations. Check them out below!
Heart of Hearing Program in Yarrabah, Australia, 2016. During the two-week endeavor, students tested the hearing of students in a first-nations community in Far North Queensland, toured the Australian Hearing Hub, and visited local landmarks. Tested a total of 170 students aged between four to 16 years.
